Just a quick question, looking at the earrings that come from divine might..

when you get something that is say Axe skill+5, is that the same as meriting axe +5? So +10attack and +10 accuracy, 2 of each per skill point?

Or is it just a 'ha ha you wish' sort of thing like store tp +5 isnt really 5 more tp per hit or even per 10 hits.

Meriting combat skills gives you +2 skill for every merit, the +5 axe skill is just that, +5. So it's the same as 2 1/2 merits. Post 200 skill, i believe that every skill point gives +0.7 acc and attack. So +5 skill would give +3.5 acc and att. It might be +0.8 though I don't remember....

0.7 makes sense i guess, there's the neck items that give weapon skill +7, so that would be +5 attack and accuracy

I can attest that it gives the full amount in attack 200+. Accuracy, I don't know for certain, but doubt it.

Wiki says:

1 Handed Attack = {( 8 + Combat Skill + STR/2 + (+attack from gear) + (+attack trait/ability/minuet)) * berserk effect (if available)} * (1+ percentage increase from food )
2 Handed Attack = {( 8 + Combat Skill + 3STR/4 + (+attack from gear) + (+attack trait/ability/minuet)) * berserk effect (if available)} * (1+ percentage increase from food )

nothing about diminishing returns 200+ and I've never observed that gaining 1 skill level did not give 1 attack

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Accuracy

Quote:
Combat Skill:

* When combat skill is ≤200, your entire combat skill value is used when calculating your melee accuracy.
* When combat skill is >200, combat skill exceeding 200 is reduced by 10% with respect to your accuracy, while combat skill of 200 or less is not reduced.

a) Take your combat skill and subtract 200.
b) Multiply the result number by 0.9.
c) Add the result from b) to 200 to get your accuracy contribution from combat skill.
d) Round all fractions down.

Example: Say you are a Dancer with a dagger combat skill of 256.

256 - 200 = 56
56 * 0.9 = 50.4
50.4 + 200 = 250.4
Rounding down, you can see that your accuracy contribution from combat skill is 250.

edit: Attack does not degrade after 200 as far as I can tell, only accuracy.

Ah, so no diminishing attack, but accuracy post 200 is delegated to 0.9. Looks like I was being pessimistic ;)

alright, more questions. I dont understand the whole weaponskill deal, any help would be great.

I have found the calculation for a non-elemental weapon skill:

PHYSICAL WEAPONSKILLS

Damage= WD * PDIF = (( D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP) * PDIF

WD: Base damage of your WS
D: Base damage of your weapon (e.g., Espadon = 43)
fSTR: difference between your STR and target's VIT
WSC: Secondary attribute like STR_30 (30% of your STR).
fTP: Multiplier (Please see chart below).
PDIF: (your ATK/target?s DEF)

WSC = Integer (any secondary attributes) x Alpha Value
(there's a chart for alpha value under this,
Level 74~75 0.83
I dont get that part at all

--------------------------------------------------------------
using:
(( D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP) * PDIF
if 'PDIF' is the difference between my attack and my enemies defense, wouldnt it be more beneficial to use gloves that are attack+12 rather than strength +11?

Lets say my ws with no gloves = ((40 + 10 + 20)*1) * 20 = 1400

+11 str gloves = ((40 + 21 + 31)*1) * 20= 1840

+12 attack gloves = ((40 + 10 + 20)*1) * 32 = 2240

What did I calculate wrong? Is +12 attack better on my hands? Should I level whm?
