Forgive my ignorance, but why do blm's need an update?
SE isn't responsible for the playerbase. And half the jobs in the game are shunned from meripo anyway.
Aside from exp parties after 50, and meripo, they're superawesome at everything. NMs, BCNMs, KSNMs, sky gods, dynamis, all of these, blm's are super effective.

Not to say RDM isn't. One of the reasons I took red mage was because I could be used for something in any scenario, but that's just as the job is described.

The rdm adjustment was an adjustment, not a buff, they just made it fit the job description a little closer. We can enfeeble effectively, but honestly, nin and brd do it just as good or better. We can heal, but whm and sch do it better. We can nuke, but sch and blm do it better. we can melee, but everyone except blm and smn does it better than us. We have refresh and haste together which is awesome, but even at that, jobs can haste better than us, and jobs can refresh better than us.

Our one unique feature is Convert.

It won't let us do anything we couldn't do before. We won't be able to solo anything we couldn't before, and we won't be taking any DD slots in parties, but now we might be able to at least contribute a little do melee damage.

I hear a lot of RDMs bitching, and they shouldn't be. They ought to know they are already a perfectly working job, and should be glad to have some new toys to play with. that's my take on it anyway. 6+ person events it won't change our role, but lower-man than that we just might be able to melee and take care of our other "duties".

I'm not asking for SE to force the public to start using BLM more in 55+ parties, as like you said, it's a community decision. And while I do agree that SE invoked this change by deliberately offering low risk, high reward camps, in order to ease congestion the in Jeuno, I understand that ultimately the players made this call. As a Samurai, I don't want a BLM in my Bird Camp either.

BLM needs an update due to the sheer fact that over extended periods of time, SCH is more MP efficient at nuking. Yes, BLM pumps out much higher spike damage and can do crazy amounts of damage in a very short amount time, but they pay more MP than should be required to do it.

SCH gets resisted quite a bit, but in the end it doesn't matter, because they have many more ways to work with their MP pool. Even to the degree that with 1/3rd, and 1/4 resisted nukes, given a proper battle length, they can potentially still out-do a BLM.

BLM has nothing aside from the occasional Conserve MP proc to assist with its MP management, while nearly every other mage class in the game, in some cases through a sub job, now have something useful to assist them in this field.

This same reason was the catalyst for the well deserved update that WHM will be receiving. Their job was being done better by jobs that by design, were not supposed to hold a candle to it's skills in healing and status removal. I applaud SE for finally hearing the player base at least on one subject, and seeing that the balance needed to be restored. Now all I'm asking of them is to look at the other end of the spectrum.

As some food for thought: In the past 4 years, the only things BLM received was tier 2 merits, Retrace, and the magic resistance nerf.
