Forgive my ignorance, but why do blm's need an update? SE isn't responsible for the playerbase. And half the jobs in the game are shunned from meripo anyway. Aside from exp parties after 50, and meripo, they're superawesome at everything. NMs, BCNMs, KSNMs, sky gods, dynamis, all of these, blm's are super effective.
Not to say RDM isn't. One of the reasons I took red mage was because I could be used for something in any scenario, but that's just as the job is described.
The rdm adjustment was an adjustment, not a buff, they just made it fit the job description a little closer. We can enfeeble effectively, but honestly, nin and brd do it just as good or better. We can heal, but whm and sch do it better. We can nuke, but sch and blm do it better. we can melee, but everyone except blm and smn does it better than us. We have refresh and haste together which is awesome, but even at that, jobs can haste better than us, and jobs can refresh better than us.
Our one unique feature is Convert.
It won't let us do anything we couldn't do before. We won't be able to solo anything we couldn't before, and we won't be taking any DD slots in parties, but now we might be able to at least contribute a little do melee damage.
I hear a lot of RDMs bitching, and they shouldn't be. They ought to know they are already a perfectly working job, and should be glad to have some new toys to play with. that's my take on it anyway. 6+ person events it won't change our role, but lower-man than that we just might be able to melee and take care of our other "duties".
